Rodon salutes Swans’ desire for clean sheets

SWANSEA City have yet to concede a goal in the Championship this term – and it’s not just down to the defence.

That’s the view of Joe Rodon, who believes the two clean sheets so far are down to the whole team’s positive attitude to their defensive duties.

Swansea began the campaign in shaky fashion as a 2-0 reverse at Newport County saw them dumped out of the Carabao Cup.

But since then there have been way more positives than negatives.

The opening day of the league season saw Swansea claim a 1-0 win at Preston North End. And Steve Cooper’s men followed it up with a 0-0 draw at home to Birmingham on Saturday.

It could have been two wins from two, but Swansea failed to make the most of their possession and didn’t take what chances fell their way against a stubborn Birmingham.

Midfielders Matt Grimes and Korey Smith both made crucial blocks as Swansea battled their way to a point. And Wales defender Rodon – who has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium on more than once occasion this summer – said that attitude runs throughout the team.

“Having two clean sheets from our first two games is something we pride ourselves on,” he told the club website.

“All the boys put in a great shift, as they did in keeping the clean sheet at Preston.

“You can see everyone doing their bit, midfielders making tackles and blocks and the forwards tracking men back.

“It just shows it’s not just about the keeper and back three or four.

”We work hard for each other, but that is the absolute minimum we expect from each other.

”It’s great to see everyone working hard for each other, but there is that frustration we could not get the win.”

Swansea return to action on Saturday when they make the trip to Wycombe Wanderers.
