Car parks upgraded as part of city-wide improvment scheme
TWO council-owned car parks in Swansea are being resurfaced as part of continuing improvements to car parking facilities across the city.
The Quarry in Mumbles and Lime Street Car Park in Gorseinon are both being upgraded to prolong their lifespan.
Nearby car parks at the Dairy (Mumbles) and Brighton Road (Gorseinon) have both undergone similar work in recent years when resurfacing work took place and included city centre surface car parks at Salubrious Passage, East Burrows and Pell Street. The latest work being carried out by
Swansea Council will require a temporary closure of both sites to complete the work safely.
The Quarry car park is also closed this week while council parks teams remove a number of ash trees affected by ash die back. Pruning will also take place to other trees.
Cllr Mark Thomas, cabinet member for environment enhancement and infrastructure management, said: “Both car parks provide regular parking facilities for many motorists in those communities and it’s important we continue to keep them in good condition to prolong their lifespan.
“It will mean a temporary closure while the work is being completed but I hope motorists will appreciate closing them is necessary for the work to be done.”
The improvements also follow more recent investment across all car parks in Swansea where payment machines are being upgraded.
More than 30 new machines have already been installed at beach car parks and along
Mumbles foreshore. A total of £280k is being invested in the installation of the new payment facilities which will see all 72 pay and display machines replaced. The remaining machines will be installed in the coming months.
Cllr Thomas added: “The installation of new payment machines is long overdue and we are fully aware of the problems experienced by motorists in the past. I’m confident that the new machines will make things much easier.
“We’ve also introduced new ways of paying at pay and display car parks with motorists now being able to use the online Mipermit app as well as more traditional methods.”
