Two more pubs shut for fortnight

-

TWO pubs in the Ammanford area have been shut down for two weeks as enforcement officers continue to check businesses to make sure they are adhering to coronavirus guidelines.

More than 150 premises were visited between Friday, September 25 and Sunday, September 27 by officers from Dyfed-powys Police working with an enforcement team from Carmarthenshire Council.

Two of those to fall foul of the checks were Llandybie Social Club and the Cross Keys Inn in Glanamman, both a short distance from Ammanford.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We carried out numerous joint licensing visits this weekend. We’re happy to report that the majority of pubs and clubs are now strictly enforcing Covid regulations. Unfortunately two premises fell short of what was expected, and closed for 14 days.”

Several orders have now been issued to pubs in Carmarthenshire – with many establishments receiving improvement notices and others being given closure orders.

In Carmarthen, the Golden Lion was ordered to shut for two days after a visit by a council enforcement officer, while infinity Bar was hit with a seven day notice. They, however, were allowed to reopen within that seven day period after improvements were made.

Fo r t y - e i g h t - h o u r notices were also handed to the Railway Inn in Ammanford and Ammanford and District Miners Welfare Club.

Carmarthenshire Council has not revealed reasons for why each establishment was shut, but issues which they check include social distancing protocols and guidance, track, trace and protect recording, tables being placed too close together, and pubs that allow people to stand at the bar or stand while drinking.
