THE TITAN (12) HHHHH
IN THE year 2048, Earth is overpopulated and dwindling resources force scientists to look to the stars for mankind’s survival. Military officer Rick Janssen (Sam Worthington) takes part in a secret government programme to ready servicemen and women for a new life on Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. Rick receives injections to alter his metabolism to safely breathe Titan’s nitrogenheavy air. Unbeknownst to Rick and other test subjects, the programme is designed to create alien-human hybrids. The Titan squanders an intriguing dramatic premise to engineer an achingly familiar battle of wills and bullets between scientific endeavour and military might. ■ Available from Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
STEVE BRILL previously directed Adam Sandler in the comedies Little Nicky and Mr Deeds. He reunites with the New York City-born leading man for a humorous horror set in the town of Salem, Massachusetts, famous for the 17th-century witch trials. Nice guy Hubie Dubois (Sandler) is a laughing stock in his hometown and a persistent thorn in the side of police officer Steve Downing (Kevin James) and the local force. On Halloween night, Hubie witnesses horrific scenes which appear to confirm that monsters are real and running amok in Salem. The authorities scoff at Hubie’s account so the lovable loner must become an unlikely saviour for his disbelieving neighbours, aided by his crush Violet Valentine (Julie Bowen).
