JOE CAN BE A HIT

Davies sings Rodon’s praises as Swans star is linked with Spurs

WALES star Ben Davies has backed Joe Rodon to be a roaring success at Tottenham if he does seal a transfer to the Premier League club.

Spurs are keen to add a centre back to their ranks before next week’s domestic-only window closes and Swansea City’s Rodon is thought to be topping that list at the minute.

The Swans value 22-year-old Rodon at around £18m, while Spurs’ valuation is thought to be a lot lower, but a reported player-plus-cash deal including Cameron Carter-vickers, a former loanee at the Liberty Stadium, has been mooted to sweeten the deal.

A step up to the Premier League should be no problem for Rodon, according to his Wales team-mate Davies, given the ease with which he has taken to international football over the last 12 months.

On transfer deadline day earlier this week, former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp claimed both Davies and Gareth Bale had recommended Rodon to the Spurs hierarchy, such is the esteem in which he is held within the Wales camp.

And the Spurs left back has backed Rodon to thrive at the north London club, should he make the switch, and revealed he would be “delighted” if they captured the centre back.

“He’s a very good player,” Davies said of Rodon to Sky Sports. “Ever since he came into the camp he’s shown how strong he is, how able he is to compete at the top level.

“In some of the games, against Croatia for example, they’re some of the very best attacking players in world football and it looked quite easy for him.

“He came in made it look like he’d been there for a long, long time.

“If we were to get him at Spurs I’d be delighted and I think he’d be a credit to the club.”

Rodon (right) won his fifth Wales cap against England in last night’s friendly.

Whether he will still be at SA1 for Swansea’s next game, at home to Huddersfield on October 17, remains to be seen.
