Lanzini’s stunning late strike ruins Bale’s return

-

WEST Ham ruined Gareth Bale’s return to the Tottenham team as they scored three goals in the final eight minutes to steal a 3-3 draw in North London.

The Hammers looked dead and buried after Spurs raced into a 3-0 lead after just 16 minutes as Son Heung-min’s opener after 45 seconds and Harry Kane’s double put them in total control.

They were still winning 3-0 when Bale came on as a 72ndminute substitute, but it all went wrong at the end as Manuel Lanzini’s stunning stoppage-time strike completed a comeback started by Fabian Balbuena and a Davinson Sanchez own goal.

Everton twice fought back to draw 2-2 with Liverpool in a controversial 237th Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Sadio Mane put the visitors in front after three minutes when he converted a low cross from leftback Andy Robertson.

Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford was fortunate not to have been dismissed for a knee-high challenge on Reds defender Virgil van Dijk, which saw the Dutchman forced off injured with only 11 minutes on the clock.

Pickford was saved from a red card by a marginal VAR decision which ruled van Dijk’s shoulder was offside.

Everton equalised in the 20th minute through a header from Michael Keane at a corner.

Mohamed Salah put the Reds 2-1 up with 18 minutes to go, but Dominic Calvert-lewin continued his fine scoring run with a towering header to equalise again on 81 minutes.

Jordan Henderson thought he had won it for the champions when Pickford fumbled his shot, but the goal was ruled out for the tightest of offside decisions against Mane.

Southampton fought back to draw 3-3 against Chelsea with a stoppage-time equaliser from Jannik Vestergaard.

Timo Werner gave the home side the lead on 15 minutes, and the German forward doubled Chelsea’s advantage when he clipped the ball over Saints keeper Alex Mccarthy before heading into the empty net.

Danny Ings hauled Southampton back into the game just before the break.

Saints were level in the 57th minute through Che Adams, only for Chelsea to regain the lead just before the hour via Kai Havertz.

But the Saints grabbed a point when Vestergaard nodded in.

Raheem Sterling’s first-half goal was enough for Pep Guardiola to get one over his old assistant as Manchester City edged out Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal 1-0.

Sterling swept the ball in after Phil Foden’s shot had been parried by Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno.

Manchester United came from behind to win 4-1 at Newcastle.

The home side got off to a flying start when United defender Luke Shaw turned a cross from Emil Krafth past David de Gea for an own goal inside two minutes.

But the visitors were back on level terms in the 23rd minute when defender Harry Maguire powered in a header from a corner.

Bruno Fernandes saw his spotkick saved by Karl Darlow.

But Newcastle’s resistance was eventually broken with four minutes left when Marcus Rashford picked out Fernandes, who produced a cool, angled finish.

In stoppage time, full-back Aaron Wan-bissaka crashed home a third before Rashford completed the turnaround.

Substitute Billy Sharp scored a late penalty to earn Sheffield United their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Sharp fired in from the spot after Ademola Lookman’s excellent solo effort had put the visitors ahead at Bramall Lane.

Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic had earlier blazed a penalty against the crossbar.

Alexis Mac Allister came off the bench to salvage a point for Brighton in a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace. His shot deflected into the bottom corner.

Wilfdied Zaha had given Palace a first-half lead from the penalty spot. Brighton finished with 10 men after Lewis Dunk was sent off in injury time.
