Mum shocked after finding drugs at local playground

- BETHAN THOMAS REPORTER bethan.thomas@walesonline.co.uk

A MUM was left “shocked and shaking” when she saw blue tablets, thought to be drugs, scattered around a children’s playground in Llanelli.

Lizz, who does not want her surname revealed, was taking her son to the park after school when she found the tablets on the floor in Morfa playground.

The mum said one child had been picking them up and thinking they were sweets before she shouted at the young child to put them down.

Police officers and the town council have been informed of the findings and said inspections have been carried out in parks across the area.

Concerns have previously been raised about drug use in the area and

surrounding communities including Seaside, New Dock, Tyisha and Penyfan.

Lizz said: “I took my son to the park after school. He was playing and I found them scattered on the floor.

“I was shocked and shaking and was imagining what could’ve happened if we weren’t there

and how many children could have eaten them.”

The mum collected all the tablets and took them to the local police station where they were disposed of. She said she was told by officers the items were drugs.

A statement from Llanelli Town Council said: “Following reports of

drugs being found again at our playing areas, officers at Llanelli Town Council carried out inspections at all of the parks within Glanymor Ward.

“Our neighbourhood policing team have also been informed. Our parks and playing fields across Llanelli have already been the victim of a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour, vandalism and in some cases arson over the summer period.

“The town council takes these matters very seriously, and working with the police, fire brigade and other authorities we will not hesitate to take action against those individuals responsible.”
