SHARONLLOYD

ON LIFE’S LITTLE INCIDENTS

-

I REALLY am a creature of habit, buying the same old goods every week when I do my food shopping, sticking to my favourite programmes on TV and slouching around day in day out in jeans. I’m not an adventurous soul at all. I really noticed this having dug out old photos and realising that I’ve had the same hairstyle for what seems like an eternity!

I’ve taken the plunge and had it coloured, but the style is one I’ve worn for at least three decades. I don’t even discuss it with my hairdresser any more, I simply sit myself down I the chair and ask for ‘the usual’, knowing that I can trust her to style my locks in the usual way .

My hair is short, poker straight and really fine. It looks fairly presentable after I’ve washed it, but starts getting quite dishevelled as the day goes on, and once I hit the pillow at night it transforms into a completely shocking sight.

I cannot venture out of the house in the morning before washing it as I would scare everyone, so I have the task of shampooing it daily before faffing about with the brush and hairdryer. I’ve had to apologise to the postman on several occasions after answering the door to him before I’ve had the chance to wash my hair, as I’m quite a sight to behold.

I’m of a generation who had the ‘Farrah Fawcett flicks’ as a teenager in the 70s , with my mother giving me the obligatory occasional home perm in our kitchen.

Today, as a ‘grown up’, I’m far more conservative and boring. I’d love to have long , thick wavy locks that tumble over my shoulders, but in reality my hair is short, straight and extremely annoying. I am however, eternally grateful for the fact I have a full head of hair, but I really do need to consider being brave and doing something different and have a whole new style…watch this space!
