There are three mass vaccination centres across Swansea Bay – Margam Orangery, Bay Field Hospital on Fabian Way, and Gorseinon Centre, which is near Aldi on Millers Drive, Gorseinon.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has urged everyone invited to attend.

A statement issued by the health board yesterday read: “Today, more than a quarter of those scheduled to have the Covid vaccine in our mass vaccination centres failed to turn up.

“Out of 1,750 appointments, 492 were classed as DNA (did not attend). That’s 28%. The vaccination is safe, effective and one of the ways we will overcome this pandemic.

“We urge everyone invited to attend their appointment. If you can’t make it or don’t want the vaccine, please let us know.

“Email: sbu.covidbookingteam@wales.nhs.uk Or ring 01792 200492 or 01639 862323 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Saturday. Thank you.”

In February there was a “sharp rise” in the number of people not turning up for vaccination appointments across Swansea Bay.

In one day, 60 people didn’t attend their appointments at the Bay Field Hospital. This meant that staff stayed late to use up the spare vaccines, which had to be used that day or thrown away.

And at the beginning of March, 80 people failed to attend the Margam Orangery mass vaccination centre despite letters having been sent to them the week before informing them of their appointment.

The board said the delayed delivery of those letters, which were posted first class five days before, might have been to blame for many of those missed appointments.
