Rush to the coast for a first taste of summer!

WALES was treated to a little taste of summer yesterday as the mercury reached its highest level so far this year.

Temperatures across the country were several degrees above average, with bright and clear skies for most.

The Met Office recorded the highest temperature of the year so far with a reading of 21.6C recorded at Cardiff’s Bute Park and Gogerddan in Ceredigion.

The welcome reprieve from the colder weather followed the recent lifting of travel restrictions within Wales and coincided with the school holidays.

Several well-known beauty spots saw an influx of visitors as people attempted to make the most of the sunshine.

Groups gathered for takeaway coffees and ice creams in Mumbles and there were lots of walkers and cyclists along the beachfront footpath back into Swansea.

The roads were also busier, with traffic much heavier along Oystermouth Road and Mumbles Road.

According to the Met Office, Wales is in store for another day of warm weather today before dropping back down to average temperatures towards the end of the week.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said yesterday: “The warmth was top and tail of Wales into

the low 20s.

“It’s your warmest day of the year so far quite easily and a very warm March day. It was clear for most but there was a little cloud towards western and coastal parts, but it was largely clear through most of the day.

“I think Wednesday is going to be equally warm, with temperatures around 21C or 22C, a largely fine day with lots of sunshine again. Then we see a drop as we go into Thursday.”
