Hope for new homes on old UK Optics site

-

PLANS have been lodged for 25 new homes on the edge of Mynyddygarreg.

Short Bros Homes (Kidwelly) Ltd has submitted plans to Carmarthenshire Council seeking permission for the development on a parcel of brownfield land just over one hectare in size.

Historically, the land was a car park associated with the former UK Optics site and located off Meinciau Road. If approved the new housing estate will be known as Gwenllian Gardens. An outline planning application for housing on the site was granted permission back in 2017 for up to 32 homes.

The full plans now lodged seek permission for 25 homes made up of two, three and four bedrooms and the site will have access from Meinciau Road.

A design and access statement prepared by planning agents Asbri Planning, included in the application states: “The residential dwellings will be two-storey in height.

“This scale is believed to be acceptable in terms of the local context, comprising primarily two-storey semi-detached and terraced housing.”

The report explains that its very name Gwenllian Gardens has an emphasis on landscaping and biodiversity, adding: “The layout makes provisions for trees across the site, with a large area of green open space in the centre of the development site.

“The western part of the site under power lines is to be retained and proposals have been made to enhance this part of the site for nature conservation.”
