Raise your glass as Oktoberfest plans to pitch up
DUST off your lederhosen because an Oktoberfest festival in a massive tent is coming to two Welsh cities this year.
Many people are dreaming of drinking a stein or two with their friends again and, if all goes to plan with the planned easing of lockdown restrictions, you will be able to do just that in Swansea and Cardiff this October.
There are plans for a Covid-safe circus-style big top tent to host the Oktoberfest event. The location for the Swansea date on Sunday, October 3, is yet to be announced but is described as an “epic” space by the organisers.
If all goes to plan with the current easing of lockdown restrictions in Wales, pubs and restaurants could be welcoming punters back in the latter half of
May or early June, in plenty of time for the Oktoberfest celebrations.
As well as a “big-top tent atmosphere” the event will feature table service from waitresses in traditional Bavarian dress and German food from a range of street food vendors.
In typical Oktoberfest fashion, people at the pre-booked tables will be entertained by Oompah bands in the tent which will have “full Oktoberfest dressing”.
Fancy dress is “strongly encouraged” as people enjoy a range of “authentic Oktoberfest beer” in the tent.
New additions to the event, last held at Vale Warehouse, Cardiff, in 2019, include a tug of war, fairground rides and a sausage eating competition.
You might have to be quick to secure your place though, the first release of tickets for the Cardiff Oktoberfest in Bute Park on October 1 has already sold out but you can sign up for priority notification for tickets for both events on the company’s website.
The cost for a table of six starts at £40. The event is advertised as being Covid-secure with a one-way system in place, hand gel on site and seating areas will be disinfected between sessions.
There will also be track and trace on entry and contactless payment and entry using an app.
