Juve look set to offload Ramsey in summer

- TOM COLEMAN

JUVENTUS are reportedly set to bring Aaron Ramsey’s stay in Turin to an end this summer as they prepare to rip up their squad rebuild amid fading hopes of retaining their Serie A title.

According to the Daily Mail, the Welshman (below) is one of several players set to be pushed towards the exit door at the end of season, with Alex Sandro and Paulo Dybala also facing uncertain futures.

Juve are currently 10 points behind league leaders Inter Milan, and there are already suggestions that the club will need to trim their bloated squad, particularly in midfield.

It’s just the latest piece of speculation around Ramsey’s future in Italy, with rumours of a Premier League return persisting in recent weeks.

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercato, Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham are all keeping tabs on the situation, which may well come to a head at the end of the season, with Juve seemingly ready to cash in on several senior stars to help fund a rebuild that they hope will allow them to wrest back their Serie A crown.

Ramsey has produced some stunning performances in a Juve shirt, including a starring role in the 3-0 win over Barcelona at the Nou Camp back in December.

However, the former Arsenal man has also faced a fair share of criticism, with one national journalist recently calling him the club’s “worst ever signing”.

Questions have been raised over whether Juve are getting value for money out of the player, whose wages currently stand at £400,000 per week, particularly in light of the club posting losses of £99m for the first half of the season.

The midfielder’s injury record has been placed under particular scrutiny. Ramsey has, nevertheless, managed to start 12 of Juve’s 20 league games this season and seemingly retains the support of Juve boss Andrea Pirlo.

“He has physical problems and is unable to get continuity to his performances because he has to stop every two or three games,” Pirlo said.

“In the past he has had major problems that have kept him away from the pitch for months.

“He is precious because he knows how to make the team play well and he plays well. He has only this physical weakness that forces him to stay out every now and then.”
