Beach cottage that’s shore to make its mark

A SEA view is a very strong selling point for a property and can add thousands to the asking price.

Some sea views are glimpses, some are panoramic from a clifftop, and some are on the beach.

If living by a beach is your dream, then finding a gorgeous cottage just a few steps away from the sand and pebbles is surely the ultimate location.

And if you only have to share the secluded bay with one other neighbour, then this is indeed a rare property in an even rarer location.

Welcome to Ship Cottage, nestled next to the shore in a secluded Gower bay. Add to the location the history and interior styling of the cottage and this property package is a tantalising proposition if you have the budget.

The property dates back to the 1700s and has been an inn and a tearoom.

Many years ago, you might even have been woken up in the night by the sound of smugglers using secluded Pwlldu Bay as their bay of choice to bring ashore their naughty cargo.

The property was in a dilapidated state when the current owners took it on, and they have renovated it with love, care and attention to detail.

The stunning cottage features embrace you with a welcoming hug. You’re straight into the spacious living room with classic flagstone floors, countrystyle latch doors and a cast iron multi-fuel log burner within a substantial inglenook fireplace tucked under a huge wooden mantel.

Anyone disappointed not to spot any exposed beams in the lounge need not worry – just step into the stunning kitchen diner next door and this space more than delivers.

This open-plan room, in a single-storey, wood-clad addition at one end of the cottage, hides a glorious dining area, with vaulted ceiling to the roof with a giant, mesmerising jigsaw puzzle of ceiling beams above the table that looks almost like an art installation.

The clever use of this single-storey addition results in almost the whole end wall dedicated to glass, allowing constant light and sea views to flood the space.

The flagstone floors continue and benefit from underfloor heating.

Stainless steel panels, white walls, tones of grey and statement lighting add a more contemporary accent to the space, which also features classic country cottage wood furniture and pottery accessories.

Throughout the house the sea views are a constant

distraction through all of the front and side facing windows.

There are three double bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs.

The master is located at the rear and has an ensuite and Juliet balcony that opens out on to the hillside behind.

The other two bedrooms at the front both have charming vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. The statement roll-top slipper bath in the bathroom has been positioned opposite the window

at an angle that results in the best coastal view possible directly from the bubbles.

The property is actually a three-bedroom cottage with an attached one-bed annex, which gives a new owner possible options as a rentable space for a long-term tenant or a holiday let, subject to getting the necessary planning permission.

The annex is arguably just as amazing as the main house, with a surprisingly spacious openplan living area, large

French doors out on to a pretty courtyard area, a spiral staircase plus a bedroom with a roof terrace accessed by French doors with beautiful sea views.

The annex also has a first-floor shower room and a handy workshop.

There is mains electricity and water, and the lane is owned by Swansea Council but the cottage has vehicular access.

Ship Cottage, currently run as a holiday let, is for sale with estate agent The Greenroom, Mumbles, 01792 986099.
