WE’LL KEEP OUR FOCUS, INSISTS LOWE

-

JAMAL Lowe insists Swansea City will retain a steely focus as the promotion race enters its final crucial few weeks. Steve Cooper’s men remain fourth in the Championship ahead of tomorrow’s trip to struggling Sheffield Wednesday (6pm) after easing past Millwall at the weekend.

The victory boosted their hopes of clinching a play-off berth – they are six points ahead of seventh-placed Reading, who have just five games left to play – while they also still have an outside chance of securing automatic promotion.

But for that to happen Watford – who sit second, with 10 more points than Swansea having played a game more – would haver to falter considerably over the coming weeks.

Lowe, a two-goal hero in the win at Millwall, says Swansea’s players will only focus on themselves over the remaining six games.

“We just take it game by game,” he told the club’s official website.

“If you look too far ahead, you can get lost in the fixtures.

“We have to focus on winning games and putting points on the board.

“We won’t be looking around and seeing what the other teams are doing.”

Swansea’s weekend win in London was much needed after four successive losses at the hands of Bournemouth, Cardiff, Birmingham and Preston.

It was also a stylish performance from Cooper’s men.

Andre Ayew opened the scoring just before the interval, with Lowe providing the finishing touches in the second half with two late goals.

It was a welcome double salvo from Lowe, who had not scored in his previous 17 games.

“For the boys it’s about getting back to winning ways and playing the type of football the way we want to play,” he added.

“It has been a rough patch for us, but we put that right. “Everyone to a man was brilliant. “The timing of Andre’s opening goal could not have been any better.

“It’s a great finish – that’s the quality he has got – and it changed the mood going into half-time.

“We would have thought we could have created more and been ahead, but that flipped the mood.

“For me, there are going to be patches where I don’t score, and there’s going to be games when I score back to back. But it was great to be back on the scoresheet.

“It’s the same thing, though – keep getting into the right positions and doing the right things, and work hard in training.

“This result is what you get from that.”
