No deaths as infection rate continues to drop

WALES reported no new coronaviru­s deaths in the latest figures released yesterday.

New data published by Public Health Wales (PHW) reported a further 50 new positive coronaviru­s cases, bringing the total to 210,447 since the pandemic began.

The total number of lab-confirmed coronaviru­s deaths in Wales remains at 5,531.

The infection rate across Wales has fallen again and now stands at 17.5 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days leading up to April 7, a drop from 17.6 on Sunday.

All of Wales’s local authoritie­s are now reporting fewer than 35 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 7.

Six of them reported zero new positive cases yesterday.

Meanwhile the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now 2%, significan­tly below the key benchmark of 5%.

The latest figures also show that 1,587,851 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 528,199 people have had both doses.

Care home residents: 15,095 (97.4%)

Care home workers: 34,005 (89.3%)

80 years and older: 166,471 (95.2%)

Healthcare workers: 132,649 (93.2%)

Social care workers: 44,709 (no percentage available)

Cardiff reported the most cases on Monday with nine followed by Flintshire with six and Gwynedd with five.

RCT and Carmarthen­shire had four each while Swansea had three.

Caerphilly, Newport, Anglesey, Conwy, Bridgend, Powys and Neath Port Talbot all had two, while Wrexham, Vale of Glamorgan and Powys had one.

Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthsh­ire, Torfaen, Denbighshi­re, Merthyr Tydfil and Ceredigion all had no new cases.
