Bid for low-cost housing on greenfield land

- HANNAH NEARY

A SOCIAL housing provider and construction company have submitted plans to build 52 affordable homes on greenfield land.

Tai Tarian and Jones Brothers (Henllan) Ltd want to build a mix of houses and apartments on land off Meadow Road, Eaglesbush Valley, Neath.

The proposed development site consists of 2.2 hectares of land southeast of the residential area of Meadow Road.

The area is allocated for housing within Neath Port Talbot (NPT) Council’s local development plan.

If approved, the development would comprise 22 two-bedroom houses, 14 one-bedroom apartments, six three-bedroom houses, five two-bedroom bungalows, three fourbedroom houses, and two two-bedroom apartments.

Tai Tarian is one of Wales’s largest social landlords and owns more than 9,000 properties in NPT.

“All of the proposed units will be affordable and are of a mix of types and sizes that responds to the local need,” reads a report by Boyer planning consultants on behalf of the applicants.

“The scheme has been designed to provide highquality affordable housing that is sensitive to the surrounding land uses.”

The report added: “The scheme represents a logical extension to the existing residential area and will substantially contribute to the affordable housing stock in Neath.”

The report states there would be a new access route off Meadow Road that “will ensure residents and other vehicles can manoeuvre safely in and out of the development”.

It also states the development “seeks to respect and maximise the existing mature trees and woodland where possible”, while new flowers and trees would be planted.

Officers from Neath Port Talbot Council are currently assessing the planning application.
