LABOUR WINS BY A DISTANCE

- EVENING POST REPORTERS

SWANSEA voters gave Labour their backing once again as the party’s three city candidates secured a return to the Senedd, while there were further wins for Labour in Llanelli, Neath and Aberavon.

GOWER stayed with Labour as Rebecca Evans was re-elected with 15,631 votes, compared to the Conservative candidate Myles Langstone, who secured 10,836 votes.

The Gower seat, which has previously been close in Westminster elections in particular, comfortably stayed the red of Labour.

The Conservatives had admitted it wasn’t a target seat, but it’s always a seat people watch closely.

Yesterday, Rebecca Evans had a majority of just shy of 5,000 which will be a huge boost for her, and the party.

Labour has never lost a constituency seat in the South Wales West region.

Victor Rebecca Evans said: “I am so grateful to the people of Gower for giving me this absolute privilege of representing them for the second time in our national Parliament.

“It’s been a huge team effort by a team of people and I am so grateful for all the things they have done to enable the count to be done safely today.

“Thanks to police and everyone for helping today.

“There are so many thank-yous that I can’t get them all in!”
