SWANSEA’S Singleton Park is suffering a muddy hangover after the Escape Festival.

A shocking mess has been left behind and drain covers have been lifted in the wake of the event, which pulled in crowds of thousands to the site to see the “biggest names in house, bass, hard house and trance.”

The park has been left caked in mud and people have been left outraged at the sight of the state of the park.

Iqbal Malik criticised the local authority and called for more to be done to protect areas.

He said: “So, Escape Into The Park went really well, apparently.

“Thanks to Swansea Council for taking such care in looking after our public spaces.”

But the local authority was swift to respond to the criticism and pledged to take action to improve the park site.

Heather Evans said she was not surprised at the state of the park.

She added: “Considering that there has been one concert after another this should be no surprise.

Our parks are important to the people of Swansea – and event promoters are obliged to make good any damage Swansea Council

Sadly, it will be months before it gets back to what it was.”

But others pointed out it wasn’t the responsibility of the local authority as the park was hired out.

Swansea Council, in a statement to Mr Malik, said: “We are continuing to discuss this matter with the event promoters. Once ground conditions and weather allow, they will repair damage caused by contractors’ vehicles during the removal of the event’s temporary infrastructure. “Our parks are important to the people of Swansea – and event promoters are obliged to make good any damage. Events are important, too. More than 40,000 people have attended events in Singleton Park since August, boosting the local economy and allowing local residents and visitors to enjoy live music once more.”
