Council look to regenerate town area

-

CARMARTHENSHIRE Council is set to take the next step to transform the Tyisha ward in Llanelli by inviting potential partners to share their vision for new housing and creating a vibrant community.

It forms a part of the council’s ambitious plans to regenerate the ward and the wider Llanelli town centre area, which is undergoing massive investment.

An early market engagement exercise is being launched which gives potential partners a chance to express their interest in working with the council to transform the area commonly known as ‘the four Tys’, which are set to be demolished later this year.

The plans include building a mixed-use housing development, as well as improvements to existing homes and the creation of community facilities and green spaces for everyone to enjoy.

The council is inviting potential partners to share ideas on how best to deliver the project.

Cllr Linda Evans, chair of the Tyisha steering group and cabinet member for housing, said: “The early market engagement process is a step towards our plans to regenerate Tyisha, a unique plan which looks to transform the entire ward. Residents have told us what they need and want from Tyisha and I am delighted that we are now in a position to start delivering these ambitious goals.

“Tyisha has a number of social, economic and environmental challenges, but I know that the community is strong and we will work together to tackle these issues. With the help of residents, businesses and our partners we can put our ambitious plans into action to create a sustainable community.”

The council is also working to assess the future of the former Copperworks school site but it is not included within this Early Market Engagement process.
