Hattie the cat is delivered home safely

-

A MISSING cat was found in Swansea, 70 miles from where she vanished, after getting stuck inside a delivery van.

Pet cat Hattie was only found after her owners tracked her via CCTV and saw her sneaking into a DPD van.

Hattie had become lodged in the van’s door cavity and unable to get out but was eventually discovered when her owners contacted the delivery firm.

Owner Anna Grime noticed Hattie missing from her home at Solva Woollen Mill in Pembrokeshire one evening.

She said: “When we came back the next morning she was still nowhere to be seen and we started to panic. We searched the area for her and knocked on our neighbours’ doors with no luck.”

They then scoured CCTV and saw Hattie close to a DPD van when it arrived to deliver goods.

After contacting the company they were told a driver had been “convinced” he could hear a cat in the van but couldn’t find one.

It was only on closer inspection that Hattie was found lodged in the door cavity – having travelled 70 miles to Swansea.

Anna and husband Tom drove to the depot to try to free Hattie with a tin of tuna.

Anna said: “She was getting distressed but when she heard our voices she calmed down.”

Anna said Hattie was eventually freed thanks to “a bit of brute force and a car jack”.

Anna said: “It’s just so lucky that we made the connection, otherwise we would still be looking for her and [the courier driver] would be driving round thinking he was going mad.

“The guys at the DPD depot were so lovely, a lot of them had stayed late and they had managed to feed her a chicken nugget.

“We are so relieved to have her back.”
