Tour of Britain inspires nursery children to get on their bikes

-

LITTLE ones at a Carmarthenshire nursery are proving that you are never too young to ride a bike.

Pre-school children at Meithrinfa Cwtsh Y Clos Nursery in Llanarthne have been inspired by the 2021 Tour of Britain, which saw some of the world’s top cyclists racing through the village, which is nestled in the Towy Valley between Carmarthen and Llandeilo.

Carmarthenshire Council’s Actif Sports and Leisure team work closely with community settings such as Cylch Meithrins and family centres providing training and ongoing support to staff to ensure that children from an early age engage in physical activity.

Toddlebikes are available in Cylch Meithrins for children to access during free play and also a structured fun session where they will learn the first steps towards independent riding.

Cabinet member for culture, sport and tourism Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths said: “Toddlebikes are a great way to encourage children to start learning to ride a bike.

“Once children are able to walk independently, they can start playing with Toddlebikes.

“Its great to see the children at Cwtsh Y Clos being active and enjoying themselves – who knows, we may have a future Geraint Thomas among them!”

The Actif team have visited the nursery to offer support and to deliver Actif Story Time sessions for the children which aim to bring stories alive through fun and games.

More information on how the council is helping children and young people to become more active and how to get involved is available on the actif.wales website.
