Penlan’s early blitz is too much for Dafen

PENLAN Club remain unbeaten in the West Wales Premier League and are now top after their 5-1 win at Dafen Welfare, who showed great character in a much more even second half.

The away side raced into a 4-0 lead with less than 30 minutes on the clock, shortening their odds as current favourites to win the title in the process.

A Jordan Doyle goal and two from Steven Hughes were followed by a Luke Edwards penalty as the floodgates threatened to open.

A determined second half from Dafen saw young striker Elliott Jones pull one back on 48 minutes, with Penlan adding just another Edwards penalty with 20 minutes remaining, another comprehensive win showing that Penlan are the team to beat.

Dafen Welfare: R Blakeway, J Morgan, R Evans, C Martin, L Thomas, D Jenkins, J Bessant, L Evans, E Jones, J Williams, S Coomey. Subs: Z Tinnuche, J Cutler, K Brown.

Penlan Club: A Jones, B Simons, L Otten, L Edwards, R Coffey, C Mucha, S Hughes, C Charles, J James, J Doyle, L Dalling. Subs: D Rowe, B Davey, A Harries, J Hopkins, C Rich.

Fellow Swansea side Mumbles Rangers, also still unbeaten, had to fight back yet again from a slow start, eventually picking up a point from a 2-2 draw, this time on the 3G pitch at Coleg Sir Gâr, home of surprise package Evans & Williams.

Mathew Williams had put the home side 2-0 up after 25 minutes while Rangers struggled to get a foothold in the game.

They did, though, on 54 minutes when captain Christian Allen scored from the penalty spot, and with less than 10 minutes left Jordan Lloyd-evans scored directly from a free-kick which went under the defensive wall.

There were nine goals in the CK Swiss Valley and Seven Sisters Onllwyn encounter in Llanelli.

And after a thriller, Seven are in the chasing pack after their winner deep in injury time from Steffan Jenkins, who was assisted by Nathan Jones.

CKSV were very unfortunate not to get something from the game after another spirited and encouraging performance from them.

They led 2-0 early on through Shane Richards and Rhys Roberts-alatti and then 3-2 at halftime, with a second from Richards. Then Dan Thomas put the home side 4-2 ahead with only 25 minutes left.

But Seven, not at their best, fought back, with Jones, now with seven league goals, grabbing two, together with another from Steff Jenkins. Seven are just two points off leaders Penlan.

Pontarddulais Town, with just three points from their first six league games, have now recorded back-to-back league wins after a narrow 2-1 win at Cwm Wanderers, who have slipped to ninth and have now lost five consecutive league games.

Lewis Glover, making his first league start for Bont, crossed for

Shaun Harris to head in, his third in three games, while good work from Iestyn Rees and Cameron Davies led to Dominic Abramo, with a deft touch, neatly slotting past Tom Gallacher in the Cwm goal.

Both sides changed shape in a second half that saw Cwm in the ascendancy but their only reward was a well-taken free-kick from Oliver Ranford, his fourth of the season, from outside the area.

The sides meet in a rematch this Saturday in round two of the West Wales Cup.

There are no league fixtures this Saturday with the West Wales Cup taking precedence.
