A HUGELY popular Swansea bakery which has been a massive hit since it opened two years ago has announced it is to close, but the cafe is staying open and is completely unaffected by the change.

Haystack Bakery has been a huge hit since it opened on the floor above Haystack Cafe, very popular for its brownies and blondies, cornflake flapjacks, cookie dough pots and more.

In fact, during the coronavirus lockdown, it proved so popular that people would queue around the block from its base at Penfilia Road in Brynhyfryd so that they could get their hands on a selection of sweet treats. They also did a roaring trade with online orders, with their boxes of cakes proving very popular to all those who had them delivered.

But the bakery, led by Alysia Cooke, now says it has made the “incredibly difficult decision” to call it a day.

Haystack Cafe will be completely unaffected by the change, and will use the upstairs where the bakery is currently based to create an additional seating area. A statement posted on Haystack Bakery’s Instagram page read: “We just want to start by thanking all of you for your support over the last two years. Starting a company is never ever easy, and especially dealing with the C word (coronavirus) made things even harder.

”Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close the Haystack Bakery. We have all come to the decision to concentrate on our own things with the commitment they deserve. We are very sorry to disappoint all our loyal fans, but fear not there is good news to come.

“Liam and Beth will be focusing on Haystack Cafe, and it’s about time they had more seating so the upstairs will become extra space for the cafe.

”And you won’t miss out on any delicious treats and bakes as Alysia will be continuing her cake journey.

”Honestly it’s been one hell of a ride. Thanks for being a part of it with us and for your continued support as we all venture off onto new things and follow our passions. Support local and watch your city grow.”
