Crowds expected to throng city streets for Christmas parade and switch-on of lights

-

SWANSEA is gearing up to sparkle this Christmas as the countdown to the festive spectacular is on.

Princesses, superheroes, marching bands, festive film characters, magical floats along with Santa and his sleigh will transform the heart of the city centre.

Crowds will pour onto the streets to get the best view of this year’s Swansea Christmas Parade and Lights Switch On, which is being staged on Sunday, November 21, from 5pm.

Children will be spellbound by Belle and the Beast, lit-up reindeers that appear to float in the air, the Princesses’ carriage, and characters from Frozen as they wind their way along the route, which heads in the direction of Castle Square.

Santa will hit the switch on some of the Christmas lights at the site around 5.15pm and the parade will head in the direction of High Street, down Orchard Street and onto the Kingsway, where the man in red will switch on the rest of the city centre lights at around 5.35pm before heading down the road.

Magical Winter Wonderland Birds, whose moods change with the lights and music, will also form part of the parade.

Street theatre show Spark! will also be making their return to the event and offer high-impact drumming with kaleidoscopic lighting design.

Special effects, flashing lights and loud noises will form part of the parade throughout.

But people who are sensitive to the noise and want a chance to watch in a more peaceful spot should head to the lower part of the Kingsway at the St Helen’s Road end, along with the top of High Street and Orchard Street.

This year’s show promises a mix of old and new, including lights, music, snow machines and fireworks.
