More patience is required
DAVID L Davies (Post letters, November 10) and his ilk will always be remoaners and not the realists they purport to be as they cannot bear to lose at anything.
Were disruptions predicted for the effect coronavirus would have on the economy and the possibility of container cargo being hampered because of it? Of course not.
Foreign unskilled workers are not the answer as we have a steady supply right here.
Shortages of unskilled labour could be alleviated if the unemployed were put to work. This would obviously not solve the problem completely but would get a lot of people off their backsides.
As for breaking the Northern Ireland protocol, Mr Davies seems to think the EU is a saintly organisation which “bends over backwards” to accommodate us. Think again. It is trying its hardest to punish the UK for leaving and to stop any other countries from doing the same.
Some of the main reasons the majority voted out of Europe was to stop illegal immigration and to get away from the European Court of Justice, which overturned many of Britain’s own laws.
Concerning the immigration issue, the UK pays France £55 million to police the border and as the increasing numbers show, this is obviously not happening.
The CJEU will not cease to have jurisdiction over the UK for several years. The withdrawal agreement states that the European Commission has four years from the end of the transition period to bring infringement proceedings against the UK for breaches of EU law that took place during the transition period.
Everything takes time, so we will have to forgive Mr Davies his cynicism. Caroline West West Cross, Swansea
