12 more Covid-related deaths

A FURTHER 12 people have died with coronaviru­s in Wales, according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales.

New figures published yesterday, which cover the 24-hour period up to 9am on November 10, show the total number of Covid-related deaths in Wales now stands at 6,272. There were also 2,134 new positive cases recorded in the latest update, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 465,413.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales based on the cases for every 100,000 people (for the seven days up to November 6) now stands at 489.5 – another drop from the 510.4 reported on Wednesday. It’s the first time the seven-day infection rate has gone down below 500 since early October.

The local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales is still Torfaen with 677.9 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, closely followed by Vale of Glamorgan with 646 and Neath Port Talbot with 584.

The test positivity rate across Wales is at 19.5%, which is another drop from the 19.9% reported on Wednesday.

The areas of the country recording the highest numbers of new Covid cases are Cardiff with 266, Swansea with 183, Carmarthen­shire with 146, RCT with 143, Gwynedd with 140, Neath Port Talbot with 120 and Caerphilly with 104.

Meanwhile, Powys had 95 new cases, Wrexham had 93, Vale of Glamorgan had 87, Bridgend had 81, Flintshire had 75, Pembrokesh­ire had 74, Conwy had 67, Torfaen had 66 and Newport had 63. The local authoritie­s recording the fewest cases included Denbighshi­re with 60, Monmouthsh­ire with 57, Merthyr Tydfil with 51, Anglesey with 41, Ceredigion with 37 and Blaenau Gwent with 26.

As of November 10 there were 732 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronaviru­s (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a drop on the 743 reported on November 9. There were 73 people in a ventilated intensive care bed with Covid-19 on November 10, the same amount as the day before.

On Thursday Public Health Wales figures showed that 2,455,003 people have had one dose of the coronaviru­s vaccine and 2,250,655 have had both doses. To date 571,198 people have received their Covid booster vaccine, according to PHW.
