New partner to continue building city student flats
WORK on one of Swansea’s latest student accommodation projects halted after contractors went into administration.
Blackpool-based contractor Create Construction called in administrators after trading conditions became unviable for the company.
The hotel and student accommodation specialists have been working on sites in Liverpool, Leicester, Coventry and Salford, as well as in Swansea, where they have been working on the project on Morfa Road.
Having gone into administration it means there has been no work carried out on the project for the past fortnight.
The Bricks Group, which incorporates the true student brand, says it has new construction partners in place, Claritas, and work will be completed in stages over the next few months.
It says it remains on track to open for the next academic year.
A Bricks Group spokesman said: “With new construction partners in place, our plans for true Swansea are on track.
“We’ll be taking luxury student living to the next level with an amazing allinclusive ‘student city’ concept, and we can’t wait to welcome guests for the new academic year!”
The 706-bed development, being delivered by true student, is situated on Morfa Road overlooking the River Tawe in the heart of the Hafod Copperworks area, located north east of the city centre.
When complete, it will boast four blocks with outdoor and courtyard spaces including a ‘festival zone,’ a slide, a picture house, and multiple themed sky lounges. The Bricks Group already manages more than 4,500 beds across the UK. The Post contacted Create Construction for comment but has yet to receive a response. But a statement from the company has been reported as stating: “”Following a very challenging trading period for the company, the directors of Create Construction have taken the difficult decision to appoint administrators, having exhausted other options. Other companies within the Create Group are unaffected. “The pandemic has severely affected both our clients and our supply chain’s ability to meet their contractual arrangements. An overrun in projects in both time and cost, a number of supply chain failures and delays to a secured pipeline of projects, has ultimately made the company unviable. “We have been working with advisors, clients and funders to facilitate, where possible, the transfer of the contractual position of schemes on site, to allow the completion of these projects and to protect the creditors’ position as best we can”.
