DANNY WARD 6

Had very little to do all evening on what was a largely comfortable night for Rob Page’s side, but was calm and collected on the rare occasions he was needed. Took something truly special from Artem Kontsevoy to beat him late on. Will be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet.

ETHAN AMPADU 7

Looked a little nervous on the ball early on, but settled into the back three as the game wore on. Made a couple of nice contributions in the final third too. Only real blot was his careless yellow card just after halftime, which rules him out of tomorrow’s clash with Belgium.

JOE RODON 8

A superb presence in the middle of the defence. Showed once again just how well he reads the game, cutting out several promising moments for the visitors. Looked impressively sharp for a man who has only made one league appearance for Tottenham. Sterner tests clearly await, but a classy performance. One has to wonder if Antonio Conte was watching.

BEN DAVIES 8

As above in many ways. A really solid outing that, again, didn’t look like the work of a man starved of game-time for Spurs. Took a couple of whacks but was up for the battle. Fully justified in taking the captain’s armband when Ramsey and Bale departed. Capped a solid performance with a header – actually off his shoulder – his first international goal.

CONNOR ROBERTS 8

Unlucky not to find the net with an angled volley early on. Galloped up and down the wing with typical gusto. Fired another good chance wide early in the second half, but was eventually rewarded for his persistence by netting late on.

AARON RAMSEY 8

Reacted superbly to gobble up Davies’ saved shot and tuck home the opener. Was the linchpin in the final third for his side for most of the evening. Cool as you like from the spot for the second goal too. Intensity dropped shortly before he was substituted, but didn’t look too rusty given his lack of game-time at Juventus.

JOE ALLEN 7

So energetic in the middle of the park. A couple of untidy moments on the edge of his own box, but played a wonderful pass in build-up to Neco Williams’ goal. Thrived in the tight spaces in midfield, hitting more accurate passes than any other outfield player.

NECO WILLIAMS 9 - STAR MAN

Worked his socks off on the left flank, and showed little hesitation in getting a foot in when needed defensively. Carried a tremendous threat going forward, and wasn’t at all shy to take on his man. Deserved his goal, which arrived rather fortuitously. Whistled another stunning effort just over the bar in the second half. Belarus couldn’t cope with him.

GARETH BALE (C) 7

All eyes were on the skipper on his 100th cap. A reasonably quiet showing by his standards. Did link up nicely with Daniel James on the edge of the box and teed up Williams for the second goal. Not at his explosive best, which was probably to be expected given his recent lay-off, but showed some truly world-class touchesin his 45 minutes.

HARRY WILSON 9

Typically superb in his set-piece delivery, which yielded two assists. A wonderful corner duly knocked in by Davies deep into the second half, while another zipping free-kick was flicked in by Roberts late on. Made some tremendous runs out wide too. A real asset on a thoroughly satisfying night for Rob Page’s side.

DANIEL JAMES 7

Was often crowded out by the visiting defence, who clearly viewed the Leeds United man as a threat. Heavily involved in some promising link-up play with Bale and, later, Williams. Perhaps unlucky not to win a penalty midway through the second half. Movement and ideas were there, but the end product was sadly lacking at times. Subbed.

SUBSTITUTES

Brennan Johnson (on for Bale 45): Showed some promising flashes of his quality, but couldn’t quite make his mark 6 Joe Morrell (on for Ramsey 71): Did his job in keeping the midfield ticking over with minimal fuss 6 Tyler Roberts (on for James 76): Plenty of application off the bench, but nothing to really suggest Kieffer Moore’s place is under threat for tomorrow 6 Wayne Hennessey (on for Danny Ward 90): N/A
