South Gower keeping pressure on Penlan

SOUTH Gower maintained their challenge at the top end of the West Wales Premier League table with a 4-1 win against bottom side CK Swiss Valley, who have just a single point to show from their eight league games.

The Scurlage side found the improving CKSV team a tough nut to crack and it took a 30-yard thunderbolt from Kieran Savage on the half-hour mark to break the visitors’ resistance. Not long after, Gower made it 2-0 when Jack Jones bravely headed home from close range, his seventh league goal of the season.

On the stroke of half-time Owen Evans smashed in a sublime free-kick that gave CKSV keeper Liam Davey no chance. Second-placed Gower extended their lead to 4-0 when marauding right-back John Berry netted, showing again why he is highly regarded at Gower.

The visitors kept battling and were rewarded with 10 minutes left when early substitute Rhys Roberts-alatti finished well.

South Gower: T Fitzpatrick, J Berry, J Dixon, B Morris, W James, K Savage, T Davies, M Lloyd, J Jones, M Lucas, O Evans. Subs: J Eynon, J Heath, I Priede.

CK Swiss Valley: L Davey, T Morgans, R Owens, K Davies, R Buckleyturner, S Richards, T Caul, D Lemon, S Thomas, O Hopping, B Grant. Subs: R Roberts-alatti, G Lavender, R Akhtar.

At Mynydd Newydd, leaders Penlan Club fought back from an early 2-0 deficit against Evans & Williams, who led through recent signing from Ammanford Richard Lewis, and then top scorer Mark Howells with under 10 minutes on the clock, netted his eighth league goal of the season.

Just before half-time Penlan had recovered to make it 2-2 through Steven Hughes and Sam Lewis, and with Mathew Williams seeing red for the visitors just after half-time, Jordan Doyle grabbed the winner to keep his side in top spot with an entertaining 3-2 win.

A large crowd gathered at Underhill Park for the Mumbles Rangers v Giants Grave clash and they enjoyed another spirited fightback from the home side, who once again found themselves 2-0 down after striker

Ben Wayman and skilful midfielder Jamie Karnsang, who was pulling the strings for Grave, had scored.

Rangers pulled one back through Matthew Thomas before half-time and equalised with 20 minutes left when an in-swinging corner from Jordan Lloyd-evans sailed over everyone into the far corner of the net for 2-2, and that’s how it ended, preserving Rangers’ unbeaten record.

Cwm Wanderers, after five straight league defeats, entertained a depleted Morriston Town side who had previously picked up 10 points from their five away games, with three wins.

An even first half looked to be remaining goalless until Jacob Sadler cleverly chipped Town keeper Josh Marchesi amid appeals for offside.

The second half saw Pearce Doherty put Cwm 2–0 ahead straight after half-time, and things went from bad to worse for Town when Sadler got his second and Oliver Ranford netted Cwm’s fourth.

Town, by now ragged and open, then lost influential midfielder Christian Evans when he picked up a red card for dissent.

A good day for Cwm was sealed when Sadler got his hat-trick, with Town skipper Scott Deakin scoring a direct free-kick from 25 yards in injury time to make it 5-1 on a day to forget for them.

Finally, Pontarddulais Town, now up to sixth place, notched up their third consecutive league win when they beat Dafen Welfare 3-1 at Coed Bach Park after Dafen had made a bright start.

Cameron Davies opened the scoring for Bont with a bullet header from a Iestyn Rees corner, and then it was 2-0 when the dangerous Joel Beynon slotted home after a mazy run.

Davies added his second after a cross from Dominic Abramo, while Dafen pulled one back through Lennon Evans with probably their only shot on target as keeper Ryan Blakeway again starred for Dafen.

This Saturday sees Giants Grave travel to Swansea again, this time to take on Penlan.
