Big win over Carmarthen sees Gas Club stretch their lead

PREMIER division leaders Port Talbot Gas Club A stretched further away in the Swansea & District Table Tennis League with a 25-5 win over Carmarthen C, Dean Cundy winning 9-0 and Lee Morgan 9-1.

Second-placed Penlan A gained a narrow 17-15 victory over Penyrheol A. The match was settled in the final game when Lara Whitton came back from two games down to beat Paul Karabardak 3-2. Nancy Weh won 9-1 for Penlan.

Penlan B moved into second place by beating Carmarthen D 27-0 with maximums from

Damian Gadzinsky, Cameron Averis and Lucy Page.

The match between Cam Gears A and B resulted in a 20-12 win for the A side, Ceri Higgon winning 9-3.

Carmarthen B had a comfortabl­e 27-2 victory over Port Talbot Gas Club B, with Harri Docherty winning 9-0 which takes him to the top of the divisional averages.

The closest game of the week saw Carmarthen A just prevail over Betws Rugby Club 18-17.

The match was settled in the penultimat­e game which Kurtis Marsh lost 3-2, although the two games that Marsh won gave Carmarthen an 18-14 margin. This left Catherine Jones of Betws an impossible task in the last game, which she won 3-0, giving her match figures of 9-1.

Division one leaders Penyrheol D extended their lead with a 27-3 victory over Port Talbot Gas Club E, while Port Talbot Gas Club D maintained their unbeaten record with a narrow 19-16 win over previously unbeaten Penyrheol B. Roger Gretch led the way by winning 9-1, with the match being decided when Keryn Milton won the last game 3-1.

Port Talbot Gas Club D also beat Carmarthen E 27-5, while another exciting match saw Carmarthen E narrowly beat Cam Gears C 17-16 thanks to Sam Ashman winning 9-2 followed by Ian Macdonald winning the last game 3-0.

Cam Gears D recorded their first win of the season, beating a weakened Penlan F 27-1. Penlan D beat Port Talbot Gas Club C 23-11 with Liam Owen winning 9-1 and Martin Smith 9-2.

Penlan C narrowly beat Penlan E 19-14 despite Craig Henton winning 9-4 for the losers. The match was decided when Manie Tang won the last game 3-0.
