DANNY WARD

Saved well from Origi on 10 minutes, albeit one you’d expect him to make. Pretty much unsighted for De Bruyne’s strike. Rooted to the spot for Hazard’s sublime volleyed effort. Alert when needed.

CHRIS MEPHAM

In for the suspended Ampadu, atoned for a first-half mistake with a number of headed clearances. Put in a dogged display in the second half when up against it.

JOE RODON

The Spurs man was always alive to situations and mopped up anything and everything that came his way. Dealt with Origi well. Robbed Belgium of possession and started an attack Moore couldn’t finish. Won clever fouls when under pressure.

BEN DAVIES

Gave the ball away in a dangerous area to of all people De Bruyne but it went unpunished. Conceded a free-kick which almost resulted in Hazard scoring a sensational goal. Dug in as Wales saw the game out, and put in a great block in injury time.

CONNOR ROBERTS

Got forward pretty much from the get-go and played almost as a right winger. Such positivity from the Burnley man. Made a right hash of an attempt on 50 minutes but an overall good showing.

AARON RAMSEY

The skipper didn’t see as much of the ball as he would have liked, especially in the first half. Improved in the second period. But what an effort considering his lack of club action. Subbed.

JOE ALLEN

Got through an immense amount of work defensively but found himself out-muscled by Belgium’s giants at set-pieces. Didn’t quite react quick enough for De Bruyne’s opener. Ran himself into the ground in second half.

JOE MORRELL

Replaced Harry Wilson in the starting XI, like Allen he did a good spoiling job. Saw more of the ball in the second half and put his foot in when needed. Booked, and will now miss first play-off game.

DANIEL JAMES

As ever, had the beating of his man for pace. Showed persistence to get his cross in for Moore’s goal. Pressed well, again. Was big part of late upping of the ante.

KIEFFER MOORE

Back from suspension, pressing game was excellent. Did what he does best and put himself about and made a nuisance of himself. Couldn’t capitalise on a big Boyata mistake early on but took his goal so well on his weaker foot. Booked, obviously.
