Dr Alex’s tears for campaigner
FORMER Welsh Love Islander and now UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador for the UK government, Dr Alex George, received a letter from a 10-year-old boy after he had not replied to his email or Instagram message.
Alfie is running his own mental health campaign and raising awareness using his Instagram account @shinealightwithalfie and creating posters.
Alfie wrote to Dr Alex asking him to pose and take a photo with one of his mental health awareness posters saying that he tried to contact him via email and Instagram but had no success.
The letter said: “I have been trying to contact you by email and Instagram but I am not sure you have seen these because you are so busy, so I thought I would write to you instead.”
Dr Alex, from Carmarthen, shot to fame during the 2018 series of Love Island and since then has returned to his job as an A&E doctor and after suffering personal tragedy when his younger brother Llyr George took his own life due to struggling with his mental health, has become a significant mental health campaigner.
Posting a photo of Alfie’s letter and the poster to his own Instagram account, Dr Alex said: “This is so amazing. It brings a tear to my eye to see such a young person standing up for what they believe in.”
Alex posed with the poster and said he would display it in his office: “Alfie, I think your message is incredible and this will take pride of place in my HQ”.
The former Love Islander is not the only famous face Alfie has contacted, with Boris Johnson and the Police and Crime Commissioner among those he has asked to display his poster.
Dr Alex recently released a documentary about young people’s mental health where he admitted he finds it hard going home to Wales since his brother’s death.
