2,927 new cases – but rate of infection drops

A FURTHER five people have died with coronaviru­s in Wales, according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales.

New data published yesterday, which covers the 24-hour period up to 9am on Thursday, shows the total number of Covid-related deaths in Wales now stands at 6,382.

There were also 2,927 new positive cases recorded in the latest update bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 501,028.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the cases for every 100,000 people (for the seven days up to November 21) now stands at 494.4 – a drop from the 499.9 reported on Thursday.

The local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales remains Gwynedd with 882.3 cases per 100,000 population over seven days followed by Vale of Glamorgan with 656.5 and Monmouthsh­ire with 567.7.

The area of the country recording the highest number of new Covid cases is Cardiff with 322.
