County happy to extend trio’s playing contracts

-

GLAMORGAN trio Andrew Salter, Tom Cullen and Jamie Mcilroy have signed new contracts with the county.

Salter has penned a two-year deal, while Cullen and Mcilroy have agreed to one-year extensions.

All-rounder Salter has made 189 appearances for the Welsh county across all formats since making his debut in 2012.

The 28-year-old Glamorgan talent pathway player has taken 180 wickets and scored 2,220 runs for the club.

He was a part of the side that reached the final of the Yorkshire Bank40 final in 2012 and was player of the match in the Royal London Cup final win over Durham at Trent Bridge after striking a quickfire 33 and taking 3-42.

Wicketkeeper batsman Cullen, 29, joined Glamorgan in 2017 after impressing for Cardiff MCCU.

He has played 16 first-class matches for the club and featured in all 10 of Glamorgan’s games in this year’s victorious Royal London Cup campaign, which included a match-winning partnership with Joe Cooke in the semi-final win over Essex Eagles.

Mcilroy, the 26-year-old left-arm seamer from Builth Wells, made his first-class debut for the Welsh county this year against Yorkshire and took his maiden County Championship wicket in the fixture.

Director of cricket Mark Wallace said: “Andrew is a multi-dimensional cricketer who can play all three formats and gives us plenty of options when selecting the team.

“He’s taken confidence from the Royal London Cup final, which showed in his performances towards the end of the season where he bowled with a lot of consistency and skill.

“He’s an important part of the dressing room and has started taking on a leadership role in the team.

“Tom has done a fantastic job whenever he’s had the opportunity to

play over the past few seasons and showed what a good player he is during the 50-over competition.

“He’s a very combative cricketer

and the exact type of character we want at the club.

“Jamie Mcilroy got a feel for what the first-class level is about and as a

left-arm seamer he offers something a little different. We’re looking forward to seeing him develop over the next year.”
