Jobs with a view... but seemingly few takers

- NINO WILLIAMS Reporter nino.williams@walesonline.co.uk

AS a view from the office it takes some beating.

The Worm’s Head Hotel boasts stunning panoramas over the furthermost tip of Gower, the rocky headland of Worm’s Head, and the sweep of Rhossili Bay. It even offers subsidised accommodation for staff working in the 17-bedroom business.

But what should be easy jobs to fill are proving anything but, according to proprietor Adrian Short, who said: “It has been difficult to recruit. Obviously we’ve had a tough few years with the pandemic and it’s well documented there’s been a shortage of chefs across the industry.

“This year has been particularly difficult for recruitment. I think Brexit has a lot to do with it. We used to have a reliance on overseas students, but Brexit has cut that.”

Of the hotel, he added: “It really does have the best view from the office window that anyone could hope for.

“It’s a very social job; you meet people from all over the world, and there is great camaraderie amongst the existing staff.

“It pays well, too, above the minimum wage, and there are contributions towards petrol for any staff who work here but don’t stay here.”

The Worm’s Head Hotel is an ideal base for touring Gower, the UK’S first designated area of outstanding natural beauty. It is situated next to Rhossili Bay and Rhossili Down where outdoor activities including surfing, wind surfing, hang-gliding, rock climbing and walking.

There is also a bird sanctuary on Worm’s Head, and it is close to the historic Paviland Cave, Culver Hole and Mewslade Bay.

The hotel has been designed to take full advantage of its setting and each of the 17 bedrooms has a sea view.

The hotel is looking to fill around three full-time positions and up to half a dozen part-time posts, including front of house, waiters, and restaurant and kitchen staff.

Mr Short added: “There is a whole package available; the hours are flexible, there is free parking. And of course you are not going to beat the view.”

Anyone interested in applying for any of the positions should contact the Worm’s Head Hotel at info@thewormshead.co.uk or via its social media channels.
