THE streets of Swansea are set to be transformed into a sea of colour and rainbow flags next month as the Swansea Pride festival returns to the city.

The festival, which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and raises awareness of LGBTQ+ issues in the city, last took place in Swansea in May 2019 and will predominantly take place this year on Saturday, April 30.

Most of the festivities will be based at the National Waterfront Museum and Museum Green in Swansea city centre, but additional events are expected to take place in other locations.

Full details are expected to be shared nearer the date, but so far organisers have confirmed there will be a parade on Wind Street at 11am, followed by a festival and stalls at the National Waterfront Museum and Museum Green from 12pm to 7pm.

The event is free to attend and is taking place in partnership with Swansea Council, the National Waterfront Museum and Jermin Productions.

Swansea Pride community group has confirmed the return of the popular festival and wrote on social media: “Swansea Pride is back! Join us on Saturday, April 30, for our first ‘in-person’ and live Pride since 2019! We have a fantastic day planned for you all with great live entertainment, community stalls, networking opportunities, educational opportunities and much more! at Wind Street; 12pm to 7pm – festival and stalls at the National Waterfront Museum and Museum Green. Swansea Pride is free to attend. Follow our Facebook/twitter pages and select ‘Interested/going’ on this event page for all the latest information on our big day. We hope to see you all there!”

If you’d like to apply to have a stall at Swansea Pride or ask about performing at the event, email: info@swanseapride. co.uk.

The Swansea Pride community group is run by a team of dedicated volunteer trustees and registered as a charitable incorporated organisation in 2019. It has hosted the Spring Pride 2018 event in Swansea and the week-long Swansea Pride festival in 2019.

As well as the parade and festival at the National Waterfront Museum this year, other Pride events are expected to take place across the city. Among them is a “PYNK Pride Party” taking place at Elysium Gallery on High Street in the city centre on Friday, April 29, from 8pm to 1am. This event is for people aged 18+ and costs £5 each, but organisers say noone will be turned away for lack of funds.

The Pride Party will feature “the usual mix of friendly faces, fabulous events and good music,” organisers PYNK say.

PYNK defines itself as a “queer dance party for every body”.
