Bush in fine form as Penyrheol keep hold of top spot

PREMIER division leaders Penyrheol A maintained top spot in the Swansea & District Table Tennis League with a 22-12 win over Carmarthen B, Chris Bush winning 9-2.

Port Talbot Gas Club A and Penlan B both closed the gap to just nine points. Penlan B crushed Carmarthen C 27-4 while Port Talbot Gas Club A convincing­ly beat Carmarthen A 24-5, Dean Cundy and Lee Morgan both winning 9-1.

Penlan A lost some ground in winning 19-15 against Carmarthen D, who are now making a strong bid to avoid relegation. Joe Clayton won well 9-3 to help their cause.

Cam Gears B are also making a strong bid to remain in the division by beating bottom side Port Talbot Gas Club B 23-15, with Natasha Gammon winning 9-2.

The closest game of the week saw Betws Rugby Club just getting the better of Cam Gears A 19-16. The match was settled when Catherine Jones won the last game 3-0, giving her match figures of 9-2.

It looks as though the battles at both top and bottom of the division will be going down to the wire with only five weeks of the season remaining.

First division leaders Port Talbot Gas Club D beat Carmarthen E 27-4, Roger Gretch and David Short both winning 9-0 and Keri Milton 9-4.

Penyrheol D recorded a comfortabl­e 27-1 victory over a weakened Penlan F. while Penlan C maintain their challenge with a 26-10 win over Penyrheol C, Manie Tang winning 9-2 and Cai Llewellyn 9-5.

Penyrheol B also kept up their challenge by beating Cam Gears D 27-7 with Alan Pattle and Tony Holt both winning 9-2 and Steve Davies 9-3.

Second-placed Penlan D kept up the pressure on the leaders by beating Port Talbot Gas Club E 27-2, Liam Owen winning 9-0, Aaron Churchill and Martin Smith both winning 9-1.

Cam Gears C secured a tight 17-15 win over Penlan E despite Craig Henton triumphing 9-0 for the losers, and Penyrheol C beat Penlan F 27-0.
