Rockspur back on track following cup semi-finals heartache

-

ROCKSPUR Fords maintained their division one title challenge in the David W Harris Solicitors Swansea Senior League with a 3-1 win over fourth-placed Blaenymaes.

Rockspur recovered from two semi-final defeats in four days, the loss in the FAW Trophy to Mold and last Wednesday’s defeat by Trostre in the West Wales Intermediate Cup.

Sam Keefe again helped himself to a brace, while James Towell was back among the goals.

Sandfields gave themselves a huge boost as they try to stay in divison one, beating Murton Rovers 5-2. The recalled Michael Eames helped himself to four goals, while long-serving Carl Chapman netted the other for Sandfields.

Thomas Griffiths put the visitors 2-0 up after 20 minutes but then Eames stole the show to see Sandfields move to within three points of Port Tennant Colts.

Third-placed St Joseph’s won 5-2 away to Ynystawe Athletic, who got off to a great start when Casey Coughlin netted after just two minutes. Ex-llanelli team-mates Kyle Copp (2) and Zac Brown put Saints 3-1 up, and Liam Lynch’s penalty made it 4-1 on 26 minutes.

Lynch netted his second penalty on 49 minutes and there were no further goals until Brad Cooze scored on 81 minutes for the hosts.

The title race between Rockspur and St Joseph’s will most probably be decided when the two sides meet in April, with Saints now seven points clear of Rockspur having played three matches more.

In division two, Ragged School are just seven points off top spot with four matches left to play after they won 7-2 away at Bonymaen Colts.

Scott Harris opened the scoring before Callum Green doubled Ragged’s lead on 36 minutes. Harris made it 3-0 before completing his hat-trick on 49 minutes.

Sam Lloyd netted a consolation for Colts before Will Davies made it 5-1, but Kieran Whyte’s goal on 62 minutes and a missed penalty by Samuel Lloyd gave hope they could make the scoreline respectable.

John Jordan helped himself to two goals to seal a good Ragged win.

Leaders Birchgrove Colts won 1-0 away to Clase Social. In a tight match of few chances, Tom Blackburn played in Jake O’grady, who fired home the winner on 77 minutes. Landore beat Treboeth United 4-2. Landore went 1-0 down but were 3-1 up by half-time after goals by Ricky Tait (2) and Corey Martin. Tait netted his hat-trick goal on 68 minutes. Anthony Chafey pulled a goal back on 82 minutes, but

Landore are in great shape as they end their best ever league campaign.

Plough Colts won 7-3 at Llangyfelach after a fast start saw them 2-0 up inside four minutes. They were 4-1 up by half-time, the goals scored by Taylor Smith (2), Jackson Bereton and Theo Waters.

It was 6-1 on the hour when Smith completed his hat-trick and Bereton got his second. Ethan Reynolds netted goal No. 7 for Plough, while Llangyfelach got two consolation goals late on through Josh Hier.

In division three, there were goals galore at Cwm Level as promotion favourites CRC Olympic won 8-2 against a spirited Cwm Albion Colts.

CRC were 5-1 up at the break thanks to goals from Kris Lacey (2), Kieran Griffiths, Rhys Whitelock and Thomas Coe.

Albion pulled a goal back through Josh Webster but further goals from

Whitelock sealed a fine win.

The derby between Cwmfelin Press and Wern served up another goal fest. This 7-7 thriller saw two hat-tricks, one from Aled John and one from Thomas Coombs.

Union Rangers’ excellent record at Penllergaer continued as they drew 4-4 with leaders Gors. An own goal put Gors ahead but an excellent strike from the edge of the area by Shedrech Ezekie put the hosts level.

Rangers went 2-1 up through Alli Abdrahaman but were pegged back by Gors’s Winters.

Gors went 3-2 up when Stephens fired home, before Rangers’ Andrew Smith hit a glorious strike from inside the penalty area.

Ezekie finished in style to put the hosts 4-3 up, but in the dying minutes the Rangers keeper picked up the ball twice and Gors equalised from the resulting indirect free-kick.
