‘I can enjoy my music again!’

LISTENING TO HIS RECORD COLLECTION HAD LOST ITS EDGE FOR NICK SMITH – UNTIL HE VISITED A SPECSAVERS AUDIOLOGIST

MUSIC has always been a passion for DJ Nick Smith – whether he’s at a gig, listening to albums at home or controlling the dance floor in a club.

So Nick, 64, was understandably worried when he started to have problems with his hearing.

“I had a chat with my brother, and he encouraged me to get it checked out,” he recalls.

When Nick went for a test at his local Specsavers in Derby, they confirmed that he was suffering from hearing loss…

Nick’s passion for music had begun when he was growing up as a teenager in the 70s. Later he Dj-ed at several venues in Derby, and in the 80s he became resident DJ at the city’s Rockhouse club.

Over the years Nick also collected vinyl and CDS, amassing a collection of more than 3,000 albums.

But last year he noticed a few signs that his hearing wasn’t what it once was. He kept missing snippets of conversation, and had to ask people to repeat what they’d just said.

This led to Nick booking an appointment at Specsavers to have his hearing checked by an expert audiologist – and it proved a turning point.

The vast range of products available meant Nick had plenty of options when it came to choosing his uniquely tailored, state-of-the-art hearing aids. And he says it was only when he had his hearing aids fitted and went home to listen to some music that he realised how much he’d been missing. “There was a marked difference straightaway – the notes and the melodies were so much purer,” he says. “From a musical perspective, I can only liken the hearing aids to when you’ve just bought some new, high-spec speakers – it feels as if you’re listening to every beat of the music for the first time. “Music has given me so much over the years. Since my audiology appointment six months ago, I’ve started to listen to all my albums again in turn. It’s brought me so much enjoyment and reignited my love of listening to music.”
