Student wins £1,000 in tech contest

-

A SWANSEA University student has won £1,000 in a competition for his idea to create an online database for suppliers, manufacturers and dealerships in the automotive industry.

Business management student Garin Lloyd impressed judges from automotive company Keyloop, organiser of the competition, with his idea to streamline the relationship between dealerships and the supply chain under his company name Focus Logistics. His proposal involves the creation of an app that holds a database of materials and vehicles available, lowering sourcing costs and waste.

Garin said of his product: “Dealers will receive a higher commission for their sale and the business itself can reap the financial rewards from the positive product and service they have provided, from the aid of Focus Logistics.”

More than 1,000 students from the UK, Ireland and Canada were given the opportunity to compete amongst peers, and the best team from each university was selected to win the £1,000 prize. In Keyloop’s 2022 event, students were tasked with developing a technological product that could have real impact on the automotive retail industry. Students with the top 30 proposals were given the unique experience of developing their ideas alongside experts, before appearing before judges to present their product.

CEO of Keyloop, Tom Kilroy, said: “In 2022 the competition equipped all our entries with new skills and experiences to help them succeed in the competitive graduate employment space. We have provided masterclasses and mentorship in business strategy, product design and development and in return we are seeing some truly ground-breaking ideas that could have a very positive impact on the way consumers buy, service or use cars.”
