Mamma Mia here we go for ‘cringeworthy’ moment on TV show

-

CHANNEL 4 hit Come Dine with Me often brings some awkward or cringeworthy moments, such as when a diner gets the dress code very wrong, writes Stephanie Colderick.

And the latest Welsh episode was no different.

While Jake and Abi, James and Karen, and Jack and Ashley all battled it out to win the £1,000 cash prize in a couples’ version of the show, there was one very awkward moment for viewers.

Hosting their ‘70s disco theme dinner party in their Swansea home, with all guests coming dressed for the occasion, Jack and Ashley served their vegan menu which included dark chocolate mousse and truffles, and barbecue mushrooms.

While guest Karen did not like the dessert, refusing to eat it, and Jake and Abi struggled with the mushrooms, Jack and Ashley certainly brought the party vibe to their home.

Gathering their guests in the living room, Ashley declared: “We both love karaoke, we both think you all look the part, so now we are going to sing the part!” Telling them they were “at Wembley”, Ashley and all the guests began belting out Mamma Mia by Abba.

This rendition of the classic song made for some very awkward and cringeworthy viewing as, equipped with blow-up guitars, microphones, and trumpets, all sang along loudly.

The all-singing and dancing guests appeared to be enjoying themselves and later said it was a very fun night.

Abi said: “I absolutely loved the karaoke!” and Jake added: “I had great fun.” Elsewhere in the show, Abi and Jake ran out of kitchen roll and napkins and had to give their guests toilet roll instead and James broke a vase in his house when trying to show off his dance moves.

At the end of the Channel 4 show Jack and Ashley drew with Jake and Abi, both scoring a possible 27 points out of 40, and shared the prize money.
