The rage of chivalry

-

STEVE COOGAN and Sarah Solemani have teamed up to write and star in this witty and timely comedy about gender politics.

Going behind the scenes of movie-making, in a manner not too dissimilar from the hit sitcom Episodes, it follows film producer and womaniser Cameron (Coogan), with Solemani as indiedarling filmmaker Bobby.

Bobby has been brought in like the feminist cavalry to re-shoot some problematic scenes on a movie about the French resistance.

Sienna Miller is on scene-stealing form as the film’s leading lady, Lark, whose diva-like tendencies have not been helped by her anger at the misogyny on set.

Making up a sparkling cast are

Wanda Sykes as studio executive Jean, Lolly Adefope as Cameron’s latest assistant Ama, Aisling Bea as intimacy supervisor Tatiana and Adjani Salmon as Bobby’s devoted and patient husband, Aston.

Coogan is perfect in the role of the perplexed middle-aged man, displaying appalling behaviour and frustrated with the new #metoo era.

“I’m just going through my mental rollerdex trying to think if I ever say anything inappropriate,” he wonders. “Yes, all the time,” laughs Jean. In the first episode, Bobby attempts to “restore sexual nuance” to a controversial sex scene, but struggles to get everyone on board. In the second episode of this double bill, Cameron questions his past actions and inappropriate relationships with women, and there are emotional acrobatics on the day of the re-shoot. The whole series is available to binge on All4 immediately afterwards.
