The events planned in Wales for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee including gigs, street parties and fetes

AN OUTDOOR concert in the Welsh capital featuring some of Wales’s biggest stars will lead the celebratio­ns over the four-day bank holiday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June. Other events planned include the lighting of more than 1,500 beacons around the country to celebrate the milestone.

Live under the Stars has announced the Cardiff Castle Jubilee Celebratio­n Concert, on Saturday, June 4, which will feature the likes of Aled Jones, Mike Peters, Bonnie Tyler and John Owen-jones. The event, which will kick off at 3pm, will also see drumming weatherman Owain Wyn Evans take to the stage alongside funnyman Mike Doyle, the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir and the Welsh Pops Orchestra.

Promising an occasion full of “music, song and laughter”, the concert will include a specially produced ‘Singing in the Reign’ programme to celebrate the best Welsh hits to have coincided with the Queens 70 years on the throne. It also promises a Jubilee picnic in a box as well as other food options and a full bar. Richard Perry, director of Live Under the Stars, said: “We are delighted to be producing this one-off concert to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. We hope everyone that attends are able to make their own treasured memories of a once in a lifetime moment in our history and what better place to do it than iconic Cardiff Castle.”

The Cardiff concert is just one of many events happening across Wales over the extended Bank Holiday weekend., which celebrates the Queen’s 70-year reign and the first time a British monarch has reached a Platinum Jubilee on the throne. Many town councils are getting on on the fun and organising their own events while local authoritie­s in Wales are supporting street parties being held right across the country. Here’s a full list of all the big events planned in South Wales for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the four days in summer.

CARDIFF

Jubilee Concert at Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle will host the biggest party of the year on the June Bank Holiday weekend when the best of Welsh entertainm­ent comes together for the event. Aled Jones, Mike Peters, Bonnie Tyler and John Owen Jones will lead the Welsh celebratio­ns on stage.

Adult day tickets are priced at £32.50 and children under the age of 16 can attend for free with every full paying adult. Additional under-16s are £12.50. Under-fours are free. When: Saturday, June 4

Whitchurch Village Platinum Jubilee Street Party

Radyr & Morganstow­n Jubilee Beacon Lighting

Radyr & Morganstow­n Community Council will be organising the event in the grounds of Radyr Comprehens­ive School which will feature entertainm­ent for all the family. It will kick off with a crownmakin­g competitio­n and entertaine­rs for the kids, live music and BBQ and bar for the adults, and culminatin­g in lighting the Radyr Beacon at 9.45pm followed by fireworks. Inclusive Jubilee Garden Party

Disability play charity Cwtch Together will be holding a garden party featuring crown making, hunting jewels in the sand, making purple playdough, sensory area, ball pit, icing biscuits, raffle, food and soft drinks. CARMARTHEN­SHIRE

Queens Tea Dance, Morriston Big Band

The Diplomat Hotel Restaurant & Spa is hosting the Queen’s Afternoon Tea Party on Sunday afternoon. The traditiona­l afternoon tea will be served from 2.30pm followed by Morriston Big Band taking to the stage at 4pm. Tickets costs £21.95. This community event promises “fun galore” including an exhibition of village history, a 1950s-inspired lunch club meal with music from the era, a Prince and Princesses party, a Mad Hatter’s tea party and children’s competitio­ns through the week.

Ferry Fest, Briton Ferry

The community is organising a festival with music, stalls and children’s rides. The event will see the return of the pram parade, something which hasn’t been held in the town for three decades. The festival will also bring together the town’s

Newport’s Big Jubilee Lunch

Newport’s Beechwood Park will be hosting a Big Jubilee Lunch. Organisers have promised fun for all the family including entertainm­ent, refreshmen­ts and a big screen to watch the national Platinum Jubilee festivitie­s. Queen’s Jubilee Beacon

The Jubilee Beacons is one of the official events of the Platinum Jubilee and Newport’s beacon will be lit at the Queen Elizabeth II field, Ringland. Newport is also taking part in a specially designed “augmented reality” trail for the four weeks leading up to the beacon being lit. The trail will allow players to visit seven characters that have come to life from Buckingham Palace and are visiting locations around Newport on a day out. Guided by Sir Barnaby Beacon, players will learn about a different decade in Her Majesty’s 70-year reign. When: Thursday, June 2 (Beacon Trail will run from April 30 to June 12)
