FROM social workers to drivers, teachers to cleaners, there are more than 140 job vacancies at Carmarthenshire and Swansea councils at present.

The more unusual roles include a carbon reduction officer and casual barista in Carmarthenshire, where 106 jobs are advertised on the authority’s website.

The carbon reduction officer will be part of a team trying to implement the council’s pledge to become a “net zero” organisation by 2030.

An economic development officer and vehicle technician are also needed.

There are 10 social worker vacancies – six for adults and four for children – and several support worker and residential childcare roles.

Teachers and teaching assistants can apply for a number of positions, including at Richmond Park Primary School in Carmarthen and Pontyberem Primary School in the Gwendraeth Valley village.

A deputy headteacher post is up for grabs at Ysgol Heol Goffa, Llanelli, which is moving to a new site. The salary is £56,307 to £62,237.

The council is also looking for a new media manager.

Carmarthenshire Council employs some 8,300 staff, nearly 3,000 fewer than Swansea.

Swansea Council is looking for three child and family social workers, although two are temporary roles.

It is also on the hunt for a stress management counsellor and adviser, a principal educational psychologist, family support service therapist and manager for the tackling poverty section.

An enthusiastic university leaver with an interest in waste services could bag a graduate contract project manager job.

The authority currently has 38 vacancies.

People with a knowledge of tree surgery and health and safety can apply for an arborist role, which is advertised at £22,129 to £24,920.

“The successful applicant will undertake a full range of interesting and challenging arboricultural work across the council parks, highways, schools, cemeteries, woodlands, nature reserves, and council housing stock,” said the advert.
