Man with hundreds of child images avoids jail sentence

A MAN who calls himself Perfect Lee Amazing collected hundreds of photos and videos of children being raped and sexually abused, a court has heard.

Some of the images warehouse worker Amazing had were of boys and girls as young as five or six.

The defendant – also known as Steven Mcmurray – told police he had “accidentally” downloaded the hundreds of images after initially being interested in teenagers.

Sian Cutter, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court that the defendant was arrested in January 2021 after police executed a search warrant at his house.

Officers seized two mobile phones, and on one of the devices they found indecent images linked to a Telegram messaging app.

Police also found the defendant had an online storage account which contained a further 250 indecent images including 171 Category A videos showing children as young as five or six being abused.

The court heard police also uncovered images showing bestiality as well as 550 prohibited images, that is cartoon or digital images depicting children being abused or in sexual poses.

The prosecutor said there was no evidence of the 34-year-old defendant having carried out internet searches linked to the indecent material, and it appeared he had accessed them through social media or messaging services.

In his police interview Amazing told officers he had been drunk when he began looking at the images, and had started by looking at teenagers before “accidentally” downloading images of younger children.

Perfect Lee Amazing, of Vivian Road, Sketty, Swansea, had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children of categories A, B and C, possession of prohibited images of children, and possession of extreme pornography when he appeared in the dock via videolink from prison for sentencing.

He has 10 previous convictions for 23 offences including robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, battery, criminal damage, and breaching a restraining order.

Jon Tarrant, for Amazing, said a pre-sentence report into the defendant identified there was a need for intervention to address the issues which had led to the offending, and he said his client was willing to engage with any help that was offered.

The advocate said there were a number of references in the pre-sentence report to his client expressing disgust at what he had done.

Recorder Carl Harrison said the offending was so serious it crossed the custody threshold, and after thinking “long and hard” about the case he was “just about persuaded” that there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

Amazing was sentenced to a total of 12 months in prison, suspended for 24 months, and was ordered to complete a rehabilitation requirement with the Horizon sex offenders’ course, to do 60 hours of unpaid work, and to pay £720 in prosecution costs. He was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order to control his use of the internet, and he will be on the sex offenders’ register for the next 10 years.
