Students are hard at work for summer showcase

-

STUDENTS at University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s (UWTSD) Swansea College of Art are busy preparing work to display at the annual summer showcase, which takes place at various locations around the city in a few weeks’ time.

Opening on May 20, work by final year degree students from a range of creative courses will be on display at UWTSD’S Dynevor, ALEX and BBC buildings, the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea Quadrant and Elysium Gallery, with selected shows also exhibiting in London later in the summer.

On May 20, galleries will open from 6pm to 9pm for invited guests, and the exhibitions will remain on display to the general public until June 1 (excluding Sundays and bank holidays).

In anticipation of the exhibitions, Professor Ian Walsh, Provost of UWTSD’S Swansea campus, said: “UWTSD is delighted that once again, in our bicentenary year, we’re able to open our doors to the public and welcome visitors to see the work of this year’s graduating students from Swansea College of Art.

“As one of the UK’S leading centres for art, design and media, UWTSD is proud of the success of its students and the standards they achieve.

“The importance of the artist, the designer, the film maker and the creative mind in interpreting our times and telling important stories is vital in these challenging times.”

Caroline Thraves, academic director at UWTSD’S Swansea College of Art said: “The graduate show is a celebration and culmination of students’ undergraduate and postgraduate study, where you will experience wonderful creativity across a wide variety of art and design subject areas.

“Art colleges change the world – our students, whose work you will see when you visit the show, will go on to change the world.”

The exhibition poster has been designed by Cameron Ridgeway, a graduate of UWTSD’S graphic design BA and MA, who now works as a technician for UWTSD Swansea College of Art.

His design is influenced by the letterpress, Riso and screen printing facilities available in the department.

Details of the courses exhibiting at each location can be found on the summer show website.

This year’s exhibition will be available to view online from July 7 at https://swanseacollegeofart summershows.org/

The work of the 2021 cohort is currently on display digitally on the Summer Show website at https://swanseacollegeofart summershows.org/
