Plough shape up for Senior Cup final with super win

-

PLOUGH Colts completed a superb season in division two of the David W Harris Solicitors Swansea Senior League with a 7-1 win away to Bonymaen Colts – Plough had just one defeat all season.

Ethan Reynolds and Theo Waters put the visitors 2-0 up inside 23 minutes and Nyan Green scored on 46 minutes to make it 3-0.

Long-serving Cameron Jones pulled a goal back for Bonymaen but when Mason Davies and Taylor Smith both got on the scoresheet, Plough’s 5-1 lead looked unassailable.

Davies quickly scored again, and Jordan Phillips ensured Plough wrapped up their league campaign in style ahead of their forthcoming Senior Cup final against Rockspur.

Tom Blackburn netted a hat-trick as Birchgrove Colts won 6-0 away to Llangyfelach. Steven Rees and James Grey also scored. Birchgrove now look forward to their first ever season in division one.

FC Bonymaen concluded their first full season in division three when they won 3-2 against Gors, who led the division for long periods. Jake Beddows put Gors ahead but the momentum swung when Scott Dennis equalised on 29 minutes.

Gors regained the lead through Carl Williams but a penalty by Liam Hughes ensured that FC Bonymaen made it level again.

Ben Dennis played in Jamie Coulter for a well-taken goal to ensure that all three points went to the hosts, whose reserve team have also secured promotion.

Meanwhile, Sandfields secured their first ever appearance in an Open Cup final when they beat Ragged School 4-2 in an excellent semi-final.

Jack Blackburn put Sandfields 1-0 up and Lee Chapman doubled their lead. Ragged’s task was a mammoth one when Shaun Howells and Chapman again were on target to give Sandfields a 4-0 half-time lead.

Callum Green and Alli Totarella netted goals in the second half to give Ragged some hope of a comeback, but Sandfields held on to win 4-2.

This was the last match of the first season since long-serving Ragged secretary Maurice Hogg sadly died.

In the other Open Cup semi, Rockspur Fords beat St Joseph’s 6-3 in the battle between the clubs that finished as winners and runners-up in division one. Rockspur’s clinical showing in the first hour ensured they reached the final of the Open Cup to go with their appearance in the final of the Senior Cup.

Rockspur went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Aaron Lewis and James Towell. Saints pulled a goal back but Luke Chappell and two from Sam Keefe, one a penalty, made it 5-1.

Two Jay Morris penalties reduced the deficit to 5-3 but Rockspur capped a remarkable season when long-serving Daniel Williams netted on 80 minutes.
