Coedgwilym prove too strong for Old Landorians

THE pick of the matches in the second round of matches in division one of the Swansea Fish Swansea Bowling Associatio­n last weekend was the clash between Coedgwilym and Old Landorians at Coedgwilym Park, Clydach.

Coedgwilym had a convincing 62-32 victory, the points going 11-1 in their favour.

The Coedgwilym rink of Martin Legg, Tina Voyle, Malcolm Mort and skip Matthew Bithell defeated the rink skipped by James Cross 26-12, which included a count of 7 on the 19th end.

They followed this up with Peter Bolch, Dai Jones, Bob Penn and skip Billy Potter finishing 20-8 up against Norman Lloyd. The other Coedgwilym rink skipped by Clive Davies had a narrow win against Mike Hartnoll 16-12.

Swansea BC maintained their winning start to the season when they beat Jersey 67-50 at Bryn Road, 9-3 on points.

Swansea’s top rink was Archie Thomas, Martin Williams, Dave Roberts and skip John Davies, who beat skip Rhodri Johnson 25-13.

Other rink scores: Greg Waters 14 Alan Price 20, Matthew Jackson 28 Edward Johnson 17.

Both Victoria Saints and Parc Llewelyn were looking for victories after losing last time out when they met at Victoria Park, and it was the visitors who were victorious, winning 65-46, 7-5 on points.

The Parc Llewelyn rink of Gwyn Matthews, Bob Davies, Marc Batcup and skip Kenny Davies were the visitors’ sole success, their 31-10 win over skip Damian Devois securing victory for their team.

Other rinks scores: Mark Dunbar 21 Don Batcup 20, J Higgins 15 Neil Maclean 14.

Sketty Church were home to Morriston United and a close match was envisaged, but Church gained a comfortabl­e 67¾-40 win, 10-1 on points.

Rink scores: Tom Snelgrove 24 Steve Beddoe 10, Matthew Stevens 22 Lyndon Havard 15, Archie Phillips 21¾ Alan Rees 10.

It is early days but Sketty Church head the table by one point from Swansea BC.

In division two, the pick of the games was the clash between Tyn-y-twr and Dyfatty, who both won their first matches. Visitors Dyfatty secured a good victory, winning a close match 68-58, 9-3 on points.

Rink scores: D Morris 22 Russell Smith 28, Dave Selby 22 Brian Thomas 16, Glyn Williams 14 Robin Thomas 24.

Landore Social were making their first appearance in the league when they took on visitors Hafod, and in a close match Hafod won 53¾-50, 9-3 on points.

Rink scores: Dai John 16 Gordon Grey 19, Andy Lewis 21 John Rosser 16, Jeff Mccallan 13 Norman Burgess 18¾.

Mynyddbach won 73-40, 9-3 on points, at home to Mumbles.

Mynyddbach gave debuts to three players – Angus Mcdonald, Doug Newbury and Roy Davies, who did well in their first games.

Rink scores: Peter Locke 34 Huw Vaughan 6, Huw Williams 25 Brian Fuller 14, and Nigel Cornell 14 Nigel Richards 20.

St Thomas entertaine­d Tawe at Jersey Park – both teams lost their first games – and in a close match Tawe won 61-57, 7-5 on points. It was the rink of G Price, Stan Parsons, Ian Florence and skip John Warwick that proved the difference, beating the rink skipped by Donald Payne 23-10.

Other rink scores: Gordon Whitehouse 26 Paul Richards 20, Russell Evans 21 Steve Price 18.

Clyne Valley were home to Llansamlet and buoyant after their win at Mynyddbach in the first match of the season, and they continued their good form with a 57-47 victory, gaining 11 points.

Rink scores: Gerry Grigg 18 David Jenkins 17¼, Roland Page 18 Bill Payne 12¾, Peter Worsley 21 Paul Jenkins 17.

Clyne Valley head the early table, three points ahead of Dyfatty.
