Wadlan stars again as majestic form continues

-

BRAD Wadlan continued his sensational start to the South Wales Premier Cricket League season as Swansea made it two wins from two.

A week on from leading his side to victory over Cardiff when he clubbed a superb 187 off just 130 deliveries, the Swansea skipper put Bridgend’s attack to the sword.

Wadlan smashed a wonderful 152 off 114 balls, an innings including 25 boundaries and two sixes, as Swansea eased to victory at Newbridge Fields by 159 runs.

Steffan Roberts also reached three figures, his 102 coming off 89 balls, as the visitors reached a commanding 384-6 in their 50 overs.

Bridgend skipper Tom Baker (78) and opener Sam Wood (56) starred in the home reply, but they ended up well short on 2256.

Champions St Fagans also made it two wins from two, but they were pushed all the way before edging home by two wickets at Ammanford.

Ollie Sherwood took 3-30 for Saints as the home side were dismissed for 171. Daniel Roberts top-scored with 47.

St Fagans had a number of shaky moments in their run chase, but Owen Morgan (61 not out) and Ruaidhri Smith (41) helped steer them home.

Callum Taylor was the star of the show as Newport won by five wickets at Cardiff.

Taylor took three wickets as the hosts were restricted to 2137. Glamorgan’s Prem Sisodiya struck five sixes and three boundaries in a 68-ball 84.

Taylor then took centre stage with the bat as his unbeaten 103 guided Newport home with 15 balls to spare. Harry Friend added 42.

The closest match came in the Swansea Valley as Pontarddulais beat Clydach by one wicket.

Rhodri Davies (68) and Jonathan Hubschmid (54) helped Clydach to 237-9. It looked like being enough as Bont slipped to 186-8, but Jack Butler’s unbeaten 64 got the visitors over the line in the 49th over. Clydach’s Jo Farthing took three wickets.

Neath beat Port Talbot Town by nine wickets. Daniel Rowe scored 60 as Port Talbot were all out for 164. But Tom Cullen (75no) and Cameron Bamford (72no) produced a partnership of 152 to see Neath home.
